Brett Hutton, Jake Ball and Sam Wood have been added to the Nottinghamshire squad to face Derbyshire in Tuesday’s Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-final at Trent Bridge.
Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell will elevate Steven Mullaney to the top of the order with Wood assured of a place in the side.
Hutton and Ball will compete for the place vacated by Harry Gurney.
“It’s an opportunity for Steven Mullaney to show what he can do at the top of the order and we have to accept that Alex may be missing more and more if he can establish himself in England’s One-Day side,” said Newell.
“We’re likely to use at least 16 players in the next few weeks and it’s important that those coming into the side are ready to play.”
Derbyshire have overcome a two-point deduction to qualify from fourth place in Group B and Newell is all too aware of their qualities.
“Derbyshire have won as many games as we have in the group stage and they produced an accomplished performance in front of the Sky cameras last week.
“Mark Footitt is the fastest bowler in the country at the moment and we need to be aware of their qualities.”
