Notts Outlaws opener Alex Hales believes there’s more to come from his partnership with Michael Lumb in Sunday’s NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final against Hampshire at Trent Bridge.
The pair’s most productive partnership came in the Outlaw’s Royal London One Day Cup match against Sussex at Horsham with a 139-run stand laying the foundations for a convincing win.
Hales has scored 314 runs in the NatWest T20 Blast this season and is keen to make a telling contribution in Sunday’s winner-takes-all encounter.
“I really enjoy the partnership I’ve established with Michael Lumb for Notts and England but we probably haven’t fired as much as we’d like too in T20 cricket this year,” said Hales.
“Sunday would be the perfect time to put on a big score but the fact that we’ve done as well as we have in the group shows the depth that we have in our batting.”
Hales departed without scoring in the only previous meeting between the two sides in T20 cricket as Hampshire prevailed in the 2012 quarter-final at Trent Bridge. Notts have won one of their five home quarter-finals since T20 cricket became a domestic fixture in 2003 but will go into Sunday’s game in the midst of a run that has seen them beaten only twice in their last 20 outings in all competitions.
“This is the best Notts dressing room I’ve been part of and there’s a buzz around the Club because of the way we are managing to compete in all three formats,” said Hales.
“Of course the recent home quarter-finals we’ve been involved in are at the back of my mind but there’s only one way to lay that to rest and that’s what we’re focused on.”
