Notts Outlaws bowler Jake Ball hopes to force his way into the team to face Derbsyshire at Trent Bridge on Tuesday.
Ball is a likely candidate to replace Harry Gurney in the side during England’s limited overs series against India.
“We all love to play in local derbies and if I get my chance then I need to grasp it if I’m going to keep my place,” said Ball, who missed out on last year’s Lord’s final through injury.
“Every game is a big game now because we’re in contention in the Championship and the One-Day Cup has reached the knockout stage.”
Notts will miss the top-order prowess of Alex Hales in Tuesday’s match with Steven Mullaney likely to step into an opening partnership alongside Michael Lumb.
Ball, a graduate of the Nottinghamshire academy, hopes to see more emerging seamers make their mark at first team level with Brett Hutton and Luke Wood hoping to push for places.
“Brett is a first-change bowler who bats very well and he has been churning out the runs for the second eleven,” said Ball.
“He probably sees himself in the Mullaney mould in the sense that he can hold up an end and score quickly in the later overs.
“Luke has impressed a lot of people with his skills and he swings the red ball consistently which is a great weapon to have.
“I know from my own experience that making the step-up can be tough but they both have the potential to do it.”
