Australian fast bowler Peter Siddle made his debut for native Victoria in 2005, facing a touring West Indies side. After quickly developing, he made waves in the international game for his pace and consistency. In the 2010 winter Ashes series, he claimed a hat-trick on his 26th birthday, seeing off Alastair Cook, Matt Prior and Stuart Broad in successive deliveries.
To date, Siddle has made 46 Test appearances for Australia, his best figures coming in the hat-trick match during the winter of 2010, when he took 6-54 against England at the Gabba. He’s also no stranger in the local area, after taking five in the first innings of Trent Bridge’s 2013 Investec Ashes Test. To date, he has 167 Test wickets to his name, coming at an average of 29.11.
In domestic cricket, his records speak for themselves. In his 86 First-class matches, he has more than 300 wickets to his name, as well as 60 limited-overs scalps.
His career-best figures came for the Victorian Bushrangers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, when his 6-43 won his side’s Sheffield Shield contest against South Australia. Siddle also offers strength with bat as well as with ball, his highest score standing at a handsome 103 not out.
Considered primarily a Test bowler, he has made few appearances for Australia in the shorter formats, but his power and pace should make him a perfect fit for Nottinghamshire in their quest to challenge at the top of next season’s LV= County Championship.
