Background

Nottinghamshire face Bangladesh A in a 50-overs per side friendly at Trent Bridge on Wednesday, beginning at 10.45am.

The fixture will be the fourth played by the tourists on their short visit to the UK. They have already faced Hampshire, Yorkshire and Lancashire, losing to all three – and still have to face Notts and Worcestershire before taking on the England Lions in three unofficial ODIs next week.

History

The fixture will be the first played at Trent Bridge by a Bangladesh A side but their full international side has appeared at the ground in the past.

In both 2005 and 2010 they were defeated by England in ODIs. The first match saw a little bit of history created as Durham’s Paul Collingwood became the first player to score a century (112 not out) and take five-wickets (6-31) in the same ODI. Skipper Andrew Strauss was also amongst the runs, making 152 in his side’s 168-run win. Mohammad Ashraful made 94 for the losing side.

Three years ago Ian Bell’s unbeaten 84 helped secure a 6-wicket win for England, with Raqibul Hasan top-scoring with 76 for the tourists.

Bangladesh also played two matches at Trent Bridge during the 2009 IC World t20 tournament. They lost to India by 25 runs and to Ireland by 6 wickets.

Played For Both

Tamim Iqbal is the only Bangladesh international to appear for Nottinghamshire. The left-handed opening batsman made five appearances for the county in the 2011 domestic t20 competition, scoring 104 runs, with a best of 47.

Team News

With the match sandwiched between two important Yorkshire Bank 40 qualifying matches, it is likely that Nottinghamshire’s director of cricket, Mick Newell, may ring the changes for this fixture and include several players currently on the fringe of the first team. The Bangladesh A party is captained by Jahurul Islam, one of twelve members of the 15-strong party that has played Test cricket. Others are: Naeem Islam, Anamul Haque, Elias Sunny, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Robiul Islam, Raqibul Hasan, Shamsur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Sohag Gazi and Ziaur Rahman. Remaining members are: Al-Amin Hossain, Farhad Reza and Marshall Ayub.
