Half-centuries from Paul Franks, Mark Wagh and Adam Voges have helped Nottinghamshire re-establish a foothold in their LV= County Championship match against Yorkshire.
The home side still have a lot to do to avoid defeat against their title rivals but the 152-run lead they have establish means the heavy defeat forecast after a disastrous first day is no longer a foregone conclusion.
Overnight centurion Andrew Gale finished unbeaten on 151 as Andre Adams completed a six-wicket haul to dismiss the hosts for 264.
Notts closed on 357-6 having been guided to 278-2 at one stage after a season-best opening partnership of 56 from Paul Franks and Alex Hales.
Moin Ashraf found an edge from Hales but Mark Wagh prospered alongside Franks as the pair shared a 93-ball century partnership.
The introduction of spinner Adhil Rashid led to Frank’s downfall when he edged to slip but his 79 represented a solid return.
Wagh pressed on alongside Adam Voges to add 91 for the third wicket but after a confident six over mid-on, he misjudged the next ball to give Rashid a routine catch attempting the same shot.
Wagh’s departure signalled the start of a middle order wobble with Patel and Brown each going for four. Voges was next out for 72 leaving Chris Read and Darren Pattinson to lead Notts to 357-6 at the close.
Steven Mullaney, Luke Fletcher and Andre Adams represent a strong tail and with consensus suggests a further 150 runs are needed to set Yorkshire a competitive chase.
