Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell said that Neil Edwards should consider himself unlucky to have been left out of the Nottinghamshire team to face Kent at Tunbridge Wells.
Newell has left out the former Somerset opener to accommodate the inclusion of David Hussey but admits that he considered dropping Samit Patel before elevating him to open alongside Alex Hales.
Luke Fletcher is also in consideration having recovered from a stomach strain and Graeme White will play if Newell elects to include a second spinner.
“David Hussey was always going to go straight into the side and Neil and Samit haven’t scored as many runs as they would have liked to so far this season,” said Newell.
“I made the decision to include Samit because of what he offers with his bowling and he needs to adapt to the challenge of facing the new ball.
“Neil was unlucky to miss out and I know that he’ll be keen to earn his place back as soon as possible.”
Notts are top of division one of the LV= County Championship having won four, drew one and lost one of their opening six matches.
