Opener Matthew Wood signalled his return to form following a pre-season ankle ligament injury with an excellent hundred on the second day of Nottinghamshire’s Second XI Championship match with Leicestershire.
Making only his second appearance of the campaign, Wood hit 114 on an increasingly unpredictable pitch at Welbeck as Notts reached 343 all out.
Batting for more than four hours and coming in after Bilal Shafayat had retired hurt, Wood hit 16 boundaries and showed real fluency despite being struck painful blows to the hand and elbow.
Following his dismissal, Kevon Cooper hit eight fours in his 46 and Ben McGuire 22 as Notts were all out just after tea.
Bad light and rain curtailed the morning session to just 20 minutes and returned at 5.30pm with Leicestershire 3-1, needing a further 135 to avoid an innings defeat.
