Coach Wayne Noon praised the efforts of his fast bowlers on the first day of the Second XI Championship match at Welbeck CC against Leicestershire.

Mark Footitt bowled with good pace and discipline but it was Andrew Carter who continued his rich vein of form with 6-32, having taken five of the wickets to fall in the first session.

Leicestershire recovered somewhat after lunch thanks to 36 from Tom New and 32 from Jaques du Toit. They were eventually bowled out for 201 from 56 overs, with Shreck taking 2-71 from 20 overs and Footitt 2-50 from 15.

Bilal Shafayat retired hurt early in Notts reply having taken two blows on the same hand, but Akhil Patel made 75 and Matthew Wood was 72 not out to take Notts to within 10 runs of the visitors total by the close at 191-1.
