A century from Akhil Patel and 94 by Sam Kelsall gave Nottinghamshire Second XI full batting points on the first day of their Championship match against MCC Young cricketers at Radlett.
The pair came together after Will Jefferson was caught at second slip edging an intended drive after a fluent 33 in 44 minutes including five boundaries.
They added 161 for the second wicket, but the stand was dominated by Patel, who was dropped on the deep square leg boundary when on 43. He reached his 50 off 84 balls and brought up his hundred with a brace of fours. He was out hitting a leading edge to be caught and bowled by Jackson Thompson with the total on 208.
Sam Kelsall made a slow start to his innings having scored only 10 from 69 balls in 90 minutes to lunch, but steadily grew in confidence despite losing Liam Andrews (1) and Taylor Williams (16). Kelsall reached his 50 in 156 balls and was fifth out with the score at 278 edging to the wicketkeeper Richardson. Kelsall’s innings took 240 balls & contained 11 boundaries.
Kevon Cooper fell leg before for two with the score on 278 in the 92nd over but Scott Elstone and Ben McGuire took the score to 300 and full batting points before accelerating the run rate with 38 runs from the final four overs.
Elstone ended the day on 31 and McGuire on 22 as Notts reached 338-6.
