Paul Franks has been recalled to the Notts side to face Lancashire at Trent Bridge in the LV County Championship.
The absence of England bowlers Stuart Broad and Ryan Sidebottom also sees in-form fast bowler Darren Pattinson drafted into Mick Newell’s side.
Graeme Swann returns to the middle order following his outing for England Lions against New Zealand last week.
“We have lost two of our front line bowlers in Stuart and Ryan but we knew that it was coming and we have to get over it very quickly,” said Newell.
“Lancashire are a very good side and, in my eyes, potential champions even though they are missing a few key players.
“Will Jefferson and Matt Wood are starting to find their feet and we have enough ammunition throughout our batting group to get something out of the game.”
Lancashire are without injured foursome Glen Chapple (right groin), Tom Smith (thigh), Kyle Hogg (hamstring) and Andrew Flintoff (side strain) and James Anderson is unavailable having been selected for the England squad.
Play begins at 11am.
