Ryan Sidebottom played the starring role as England wrapped up victory in the second Test on their tour of New Zealand.
The Notts left-armer was singled out for praise from his skipper Michael Vaughan after picking up 5-105 in New Zealand’s second innings, bringing his total number of victims for the series to 16.
Said Vaughan: “I think we’ve all been surprised by him. His pace is very impressive, his control is exactly what you’d want and I think he’s got a really good cricket brain as well. When you put those into a package you get a decent finish.
“I guess he’s getting all the rewards now for all the hard work he’s put in over the years and it proves bowling all those overs in the county game, really knowing his game before he played at international level can help.”
Stuart Broad also bowled impressively in his second Test appearance and looks set to hold onto his place for the third and final Test, which starts on Friday.
