Notts Director of Cricket Mick Newell is looking for an immediate impact from new signing Mark Davies after the seamer joined on loan for a month from Durham.
The 26-year-old has been brought in as a replacement for Nadeem Malik, who was recalled by Worcestershire six days into his loan for their current Championship match with Yorkshire.
Said Newell: “Mark is a very promising bowler who hasn’t been able to get into the Durham team recently with both Steve Harmison and Liam Plunkett available.
“We’ve seen ourselves what he can do back in 2004 when he looked a real handful against us in the Championship.”
Davies goes straight into the side to take on Essex Eagles in a floodlit NatWest Pro40 match today.
The former England Under-19s international took 50 first-class wickets at 18.76 in 2004 and 47 at 15.55 in the first half of 2005, before suffering a stress fracture in his back.
He bowled only eight overs in 2006 but is now back to full fitness and played the first half of this season before Harmison and Plunkett returned from England duty.
