Nottinghamshire members joined the club’s General Committee to discuss proposed changes to the club’s constitution at the first of a series of governance events.
Around 80 members took part in roundtable discussions around the proposed changes, which are designed to safeguard the club’s status as a thriving members’ club which is successful on and off the field.
The proposed changes concern the establishment of a skills-based board and the creation of a new members’ committee, which would be a formal part of the club’s governance structure.
The lunchtime event gave members the opportunity to share their views with members of the Committee’s Governance Working Group, Interim Chief Executive Michael Temple and other executive staff.
Themes discussed included:
- the skills which board or committee members require for a modern county club to thrive;
- the nature of any best practice guidance from ECB or Sport England in relation to governance;
- the role of the club’s nominations panel in any election and/or appointment process, and the skills required of nominations panel members;
- areas where a proposed members’ committee should have the greatest input;
- how to safeguard the club’s future while retaining its identity as a members’ club.
“I found Friday’s discussions hugely constructive,” said Nottinghamshire’s Chair, Andy Hunt.
“As you would expect, there were a number of different perspectives around the room, but the passion our members have for our club was clear.
“It is really important to us that we design these proposals alongside our members, and this is just the start of the consultation process.
“Over the next few months, ahead of February’s AGM, we want to hear from as wide a range of members as possible on how they feel our leadership model could evolve.
“At the heart of these proposals is a desire to remain a thriving members’ club; one with the skills, experience and expertise to take advantage of the on and off-field opportunities in the years to come.”
The event is the first of a series of digital and in-person opportunities for Nottinghamshire members to understand more about the proposed changes.
A further members’ event will take place on Friday 25 September, offering another opportunity for members to share their thoughts on the plans in a roundtable session.
This will be followed by two focus groups at which the proposed terms of reference for a members’ committee will be discussed, on Friday 16 and Friday 30 October.
There will be an opportunity for members to meet and debate the full set of proposed changes before the usual AGM postal vote opens.
Members can register for the events, and read more on the proposed changes, at trentbridge.co.uk/governance
The Governance webpage will be updated with further information over the coming weeks and months.
