Haseeb Hameed is looking forward to beginning a bumper month of County Championship cricket at home, as Notts prepare to welcome Leicestershire to Trent Bridge.

The skipper leads an unchanged 13-man squad for this week’s fixture (2-5 September, 10.30am start).

Notts remain at the top of the table, having stretched their advantage to four points after securing 13 points from a drawn encounter with Warwickshire.

“Every point is going to be crucial,” he said.

“The table's tight, and we're looking forward to coming back home this week.

“We've been away for a decent period of time now, so the boys are really excited to be back at home.

“It's an important game with local rivals, but we know we've got to focus on what we need to do, which is come here and put our best foot forward, and the boys are excited to do that.”

Olly Stone and Joe Clarke took the plaudits as Notts secured two batting points and three bowling points from the rain-affected match at Edgbaston, but Hameed was quick to share praise around the team.

“I thought during the time that we were on the field, we were brilliant as a team,” he said.

“I think the way the boys batted on the first day of play was outstanding – and obviously Joe was the standout with an incredible 150.

“Then the job the boys did with the ball on the last day was incredible.

“Stoney stood out with his five-fer, but all the boys chipped in and bowled beautifully.”

The game also saw a Notts First-Class debut for Fraser Sheat, who contributed with bat and ball.

“I thought it was a really important partnership for us towards the back end of that day with him and Joe, and he played really nicely” said Hameed.

“Then with the ball, he bowled nicely as well. I think he bowled much better than his figures suggested, and he could have walked away with a few more wickets.

“But if he keeps bowling like that, I think he will.”

After less than two days’ worth of overs were bowled during the Warwickshire fixture, Hameed feels his side are physically and mentally fresh for the challenge the Foxes will pose this week.

“Rest is important, but I think the fact that we only played two out of the four days gave us an actual break as well,” he said.

“I expect the boys to be fresh and ready to go this week. They have been putting their feet up and making sure they get their recovery, but they'll be ready to go tomorrow.”
