New Zealander Fraser Sheat will join Nottinghamshire as an overseas player until the end of the season.

Bowling all-rounder Sheat, 28, represents Canterbury in domestic cricket in his homeland, and has claimed more than 150 First-Class wickets at 27.39 apiece in his career to date.

He will be in line for a Nottinghamshire debut, in what will be his second spell in English cricket after a 2024 stint with Glamorgan, against Warwickshire this week at Edgbaston.

“When I heard Nottinghamshire were interested, I was really keen to get the deal done, and I’m excited by the opportunity,” said Sheat.

“Having experienced English cricket before, I can’t wait to get back over and join up with the team at Trent Bridge.”

Sheat, whose grandfather Frank Rapley also played for Canterbury, received a call-up to the touring New Zealand A squad for a four-day match against Sri Lanka A in April this year.

He struck an unbeaten 61 from 60 balls, as well as also taking the wicket of Test-capped opener Nishan Madushka.

“I feel like my game has really developed recently, and I’m excited to test myself even more in Division One of the Championship over in England,” continued Sheat.

“I know the standards that Nottinghamshire set, and with the boys in such a good position heading into the final few games, I’ll be looking to contribute as much as I can.”

Nottinghamshire Head Coach, Peter Moores, added: “Fraser will add to our seam resources at what is a key point in the season.

“Six games in six weeks is a heavy workload in the last part of this season and to have depth in our seam bowling will be key to staying competitive in every game.

“This feels like a great opportunity for Fraser, and we can’t wait to have him as part of the squad moving forward.”
