Freddie McCann feels Notts Outlaws are in a buoyant mood after securing a six-wicket win over Northants Steelbacks at Chesterfield.

The homegrown top-order batter is part of the squad which now travels to Cheltenham to face Gloucestershire on Sunday 9 August (11am start).

McCann and Hameed both hit half-centuries as Notts beat Northants on Friday, but the left-hander was quick to praise his fellow batters for their impact in the fixture, and in recent weeks.

“It was a nice wicket to bat on, and Marts (Ben Martindale) set the tone for the powerplay with those early boundaries.

“I was disappointed not to be there at the end and win the game with Kyle, but I thought the way he and Lyndon played, needing 50 or 60, was exceptional. It shows the calibre of players they both are.

“As a team we're really confident.

“We’ve had a few injuries but it shows the depth of the squad we’ve got, with guys like Marts coming in and getting his first hundred last week. He’s been one of our best batters.”

The fixture was Notts’ first as a home team at Queen’s Park, albeit Martindale and Ben Slater have extensive experience of the venue from club cricket.

And McCann enjoyed the reception at their new home from home.

“It’s a bit different playing a home game here, but Slats (Ben Slater) and Marts know it well from club cricket and there is a nice vibe.

“It was good obviously to get a win on the board now going into two crucial games to finish.”

Chasing 260 to win, the Outlaws reached their target with 3.2 overs to spare, and McCann felt the bowling performance was crucial to securing victory.

“I thought the way we bowled in those middle periods really restricted them,” he reflected.

“We were just trying to squeeze them as much as possible with a lot of dot balls.

“We were pretty happy with that, we thought that their score was maybe 20 under par.”
