Assistant Head Coach Paul Franks praised the application of his players as Notts made it through to the knock-out phase of the Metro Bank One Day Cup, where they will face Yorkshire at Clifton Park, York on Friday 14 August at 11am.

Franks watched on while his side withstood an early onslaught as Surrey’s openers Ryan Patel and Dom Sibley put on 175 for the first wicket.

“I’m delighted for the lads, they’ve done brilliantly. The last three weeks have been a tough shift for everyone, but they’ve not faltered at all," he said.

“Their efforts have been brilliant and their skills played out today. Let’s be honest, we thoroughly deserved our win. The lads hung in there well after their opening partnership.”

There was particular praise for the club captain, Haseeb Hameed.

“I though Hass had a really good game as captain," said Franks.

"He manipulated his bowlers really well and to hold them to less than 300 meant that at the halfway stage we were in a really good position to chase that score down.

“From there we knew we’d need a significant partnership or two and George (Munsey) stood up and provided a high class innings, and I thought we were worthy winners.

“George is a top player, we saw how well he did in the Blast. You only have to look at his record in all his franchise tournaments and associate matches and he does it week in, week out.

"He works so hard and has fitted into the group well.

“I said from the start that we really wanted to give this competition a real go and we’ve made it through to the knockouts, so I’m absolutely delighted.”
