Sophia Dunkley dedicated Trent Rockets Women’s victory over SunRisers Leeds to a bumper home crowd, as her side chalked up their third successive win.

Dunkley hit 56 to become the women’s competition’s leading run-scorer of the season so far – and despite the Rockets Women’s strong overall form so far, she was pleased to repay the home support of some 10,116 after falling to defeat in their opener at Trent Bridge.

“It was great to get the win here today at home for the fans, especially after losing the last game here,” she said,

“I tried to keep up some intent and score as best as I could, and it was great to contribute.

“You could really feel the crowd behind us, especially in that last ten balls.”

Late hitting from SunRisers kept the visitors in the hunt until the final few deliveries, but Dunkley relished being involved in a close encounter against a high-quality side.

“They’ve got some world class batters,” she said of the opposition.

“Annabel Sutherland is one of them, and she took it really close, which is great for the competition.

“It put us on the back foot for a bit, but it was great for Kim Garth [to bowl the crucial final five balls] and I enjoyed being out there and amongst it.”

Trent Rockets welcomed Nat Sciver-Brunt back into the lineup for today’s win, and the England captain’s 33 from 25 was crucial in elevating her side to 139 from their 100 balls.

“It’s so great to have her in the team,” said Dunkley.

“She scored a lot of runs, but her knowledge as England captain adds a lot in terms of leadership as well.

“She’s a great person to have around.”
