Runs and wickets from Prisha Thanawala helped The Blaze Second XI to a three-wicket win over Essex at Billericay.

The spinner recorded figures of 4/50 from her nine overs, removing four of the Essex top five, as the hosts were dismissed for 252 in 48.5 overs.

There were also two wickets apiece for Charley Phillips, Liv Baker and Josie Groves, before Thanawala helped her side to a strong start with the bat at the top of the order.

Thanawala’s 44 from 43 balls laid a platform which Ella Claridge capitalised on with 73 from 93 balls.

Wicketkeeper Claridge shared in a seventh-wicket partnership of 62 with Ellie Phillips, who hit an unbeaten 44 from 47.

It was Phillips who struck the winning boundary, taking The Blaze to 254 with 1.4 overs to spare.
