Ben Martindale and Calvin Harrison both hit half-centuries as Nottinghamshire 2nd XI began their pre-season preparations away to Loughborough UCCE.

At the Brockington Ground, opener Martindale crafted 58, while Harrison struck 51 from just 53 balls, including nine fours and a six.

Further contributions from Jack Carney and Martindale’s fellow opener Sam Seecharan, who hit 29 and 27, respectively, helped the second-string Green and Golds to 271-8 declared.

There was time enough later in the day for a bowling workout, during which Rob Lord claimed the wicket of Loughborough captain Oliver Meadows for nine.

However, Vaansh Jani enjoyed a swift innings, striking an unbeaten 90, as the hosts closed on 142-1, putting them 129 in arrears.
