We’re saddened to learn of the passing of former Trent Bridge head groundsman, Ron Allsopp.
Nottingham born and bred, Allsopp spent over 40 years tending Trent Bridge pitches, during which time he earned a reputation for producing pitches on which positive cricket could be played.
He was Head Groundsman throughout one of the most successful eras in Nottinghamshire’s history as Clive Rice led the club to County Championship and limited-overs glory, and was frequently recognised as the county game's Groundsman of the Year in the 1980s.
Such was the esteem in which he was held that Notts presented him with a miniature replica of the Schweppes Cup after the club won the title for the first time in 52 years in 1981.
The Nottinghamshire flag on the Hound Road Stand was lowered to half-mast in his memory on the first day of the 2025 season, and our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones.
