Farhan Ahmed spun Nottinghamshire to an innings-and-nine-run win over Oxford UCCE at The Parks on the final day of the Green and Golds’ pre-season programme.
Ahmed, still only five weeks on from his 17th birthday, returned figures of 4/23, three of which came on the final morning, as he and Tom Giles, who collected 2/27, rattled through the five remaining Oxford wickets to complete victory before lunch.
Having resumed on 69-5, still 75 short of making the visitors bat again, Oxford initially showed some resistance, as Gabriel Gallman-Findlay and Daniel Geddes added a further 22 in the opening five overs of the day.
However, Giles had the former pinned lbw for 31 to start a mini-collapse, and from that point, the hosts quickly succumbed to the guile of Ahmed, falling to 101-8 as the teenager took two wickets in two balls.
First, Tom Cheater was bowled for four, after which Tom Mousley - younger brother of Warwickshire and England’s Dan - followed for a golden duck in identical fashion.
Geddes remained steadfast even as Notts crept closer to victory, adding 33 with Sravan Konidena for the penultimate wicket, taking the hosts close to parity and raising potential hopes of avoiding an innings defeat.
However, Konidena was lbw to Giles for 18 with ten still required to make Notts bat again, and Geddes was unable to effect the same partnership with last man Ahmed Khan.
He became the final wicket, caught by Rob Lord off Ahmed - whose figures for the day stood at 3/12 - to see Oxford bundled out for 135 and complete a comfortable win.
