Freddie McCann has signed a contract extension with Notts, keeping him at Trent Bridge until the end of the 2027 season. 

The talented teen enjoyed a summer full of milestones having made his debut in all three formats for his home county. 

He earned selection for England U19s - equalling England's top Youth ODI score when making 174 from 139 balls against Sri Lanka in July - before recently being included in the England Lions group for their winter tour of South Africa. 

The latter followed two tons in the County Championship - versus Warwickshire and eventual champions Surrey - with the left-hander currently boasting an average of over 51 from seven red-ball innings. 

“It’s been a whirlwind first season, but to finish it by signing an extension is a great feeling,” McCann said. 

“I worked hard through the winter to soak up as much information as I could, so that when I got my chance I could make it count, and I feel as if I did that.

“Making contributions to the team I’ve grown up supporting and playing for is really special, and I’m pleased that I’ll be able to do that for a while yet. 

“I know there are more challenges to come but I look forward to those in the same way I always have done, and I’ll do my best to make the most of the opportunities I'm given at any level."

McCann initially joined Notts in the U10s age group, progressing through to the Academy and graduating in the winter of 2023. 

He grew up playing his club cricket for Papplewick and Linby alongside outgoing Notts stalwart Luke Fletcher, who presented him with his maiden caps in the T20 and County Championship formats.

“It’s been an outstanding season for Freddie having made his first team debut in all three formats, and it’s been great to watch him grow so quickly as a player,” Peter Moores said.

“His performances have been really impressive - he’s shown he can handle pressure in some crucial innings, especially in the County Championship.  

“The way he has gone about his business has been equally impressive. He is calm and determined, with a maturity beyond his years. 

“At a wider level, it’s fantastic to see some of the young talented players from our youth system starting to make an impact at first team level.

“He is one of several young players we’re very excited about moving forward, and a lot of credit must go to Matt Wood and his team who have done some brilliant work to develop players through our Academy.”
