Tom Moores and winter arrival Jack Haynes added to Nottinghamshire’s healthy batting score on a rainy second day of the Green and Golds’ opening friendly fixture against Cardiff MCCU.
The pair resumed their partnership in the middle after a productive day one saw the hosts reach a 352-run lead.
Moores, tallying runs at speed, amassed his first half-ton of the summer from just 23 balls - finding the boundary on 14 occasions, including an impressive eight maximums, before retiring on 73.
Haynes’ fifty followed not long after his team mate’s, retiring on 57 alongside Moores at the turn of the 56th over of the innings.
Lyndon James stepped in to sweep up a well-paced 41 - batting partner Tom Loten gathering a handful - before Notts declared on 444/3.
With a strong batting performance completed, the bowlers took their turn at experiencing the Trent Bridge conditions. Seam bowlers Brett Hutton and Dillon Pennington both claimed their first scalps of the summer, dismissing Phillips (10) and Tribe (8) within the space of six overs.
With rain interfering for much of the day, Cardiff’s batters were only able to face 18 overs before an early tea, and eventual abandonment of the day’s play, was forced by the wet and dim weather.
Friday will host the third and final day of the pre-season contest.
