Joe Clarke bludgeoned a rapid half-century in his first match as Notts’ T20 captain as the Outlaws got their Abu Dhabi Counties Super Cup campaign off to a winning start with an eight wicket win against Essex.
The batter finished with 65 off 35 deliveries - including an opening stand of 84 with Ben Martindale - as his side chased 132 with seven overs to spare.
His spree followed a successful outing for Notts bowlers after Clarke had won the toss, Toby Pettman finishing with three wickets and Dillon Pennington two in his first appearance in green and gold.
Elsewhere, Calvin Harrison claimed two scalps while Brett Hutton and Lyndon James took one each to dismiss the Eagles inside 20 overs.
In reply, Martindale mustered a positive 14 having largely bore witness to his skipper’s onslaught from the non-striker's end, while Jack Haynes and Matt Montgomery finished unbeaten on 22 and 18 respectively.
The result leaves the Outlaws well positioned with one group stage game remaining on Saturday, before placings determining Sunday’s final fixture.
