Batting all-rounder Freddie McCann and spinner Farhan Ahmed have been named in England Men U19s’ Youth Test squad for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka.

The pair form part of a 14-player squad, captained by Warwickshire’s Hamza Shaikh, who begin their red-ball series at Wormsley on Monday 8 July before the second Youth Test at Cheltenham from Tuesday 16 July.

McCann, who has tallied 521 runs in the Second XI Championship in 2024 - including a record personal score of 243 against Leicestershire - stormed to a joint-record ODI score for England Men U19s of 174 in the Three Lions’ series-levelling win against Sri Lanka at Hove.

Ahmed represented England Men at the 2024 ICC U19 World Cup in South Africa in January and recently signed his first professional deal with Nottinghamshire; he has two wickets so far in England’s YODI series.

England play their final 50-over match and series decider against Sri Lanka tomorrow (Wednesday 3 July) at Hove.
