A captain’s contribution from Rhiannon Knowling-Davies was not enough to earn a County Cup final place for Nottinghamshire U18 Girls, who succumbed to defeat against Devon in Grantham yesterday.
Knowling-Davies’ fine knock of 43 runs from 68 deliveries was the highlight of Nottinghamshire’s innings, eventually bowled by Maddie Turner, with the Outlaws all out for 142 with just over five overs remaining of the allotted 40.
Olivia Baker (22) and opener Ella Porter (10) were the other two Notts batters to reach double figures, while Ruby Neal made the most of her single over with the ball by dismissing Jemima Vereker for 40 and conceding just two runs.
Devon ultimately came out the strongest in the second half of the contest, as Emma Corney’s unbeaten 73 from 68 balls had the southern side set up nicely for victory. Neal’s removal of Vereker left Devon with just seven further runs required to reach the final, and Corney paired up with Ellie Bishop to complete the job at hand.
Still in the hunt for a place on the podium, the Green and Golds today lock horns with Essex Women U18s in Grantham for third place.
