Young people from diverse backgrounds are invited to enjoy a first taste of cricket as the pioneering ACE (African Caribbean Engagement) Programme stages an Open Day in St Ann’s.

Introductory cricket activities will be staged at the Brendon Lawrence Sports Centre between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 3 December, with a focus on the fast-paced indoor format of the sport which has seen rapid growth across Nottingham.

Those aged between 8 and 15 years of age are encouraged to attend in particular, and can register free of charge here...

“The ACE Programme has already done great things in the cities of London, Birmingham and Bristol, so we’re really excited to be welcoming it into Nottingham,” said Nottinghamshire’s Deputy Community and Development Manager, Ian Dipaolo.

“Working alongside ACE, we’re really keen to remove as many barriers as we can to getting the next generation involved in cricket – whether that’s connected to equipment, time commitments or travel-related issues which people may have. And all the activities we’ll put on in St Ann’s will have a strong emphasis on being fast-paced and fun.

“Our other inner-city initiatives, like the Haydn Road Community Cricket Club, have proved just how important it is to take cricket into the heart of the city, where people live and work.

“We can’t wait to showcase cricket at its most exciting and accessible in St Ann’s.”

Established by Ebony Rainford-Brent, the ACE Programme provides tailored environments for the development of cricketers from Black communities.

So far, ACE has engaged over 10,000 young cricketers in London, Bristol and Birmingham and has handed out over 200 trials, which have led to a total of 140 scholarships for talented young players in the ACE National Academy.
