Dane Schadendorf converted his second day fifty into a century but the visiting Foxes continued to hold the upper hand at Lady Bay.
In a fine week for Nottinghamshire cricketers called Dane, after Paterson’s eight-wicket haul against Worcestershire, the young wicketkeeper struck 101 in the hosts' 352 all out.
Leicestershire, resuming their second innings 159 runs ahead, progressed to 98/0 by the close of play on day three.
Schadendorf and Zak Chappell (64) enjoyed a fruitful start to the third morning, both bringing up milestones as the Green and Golds looked to wipe out the visitors’ lead.
Both would fall before the tea interval however, the Foxes’ spin duo of Rehan Ahmed (5-120) and Nathan Bowley (3-60) a constant thorn in Nottinghamshire’s side.
Sammy King posted a sprightly 31 of his own but ultimately ran out of partners, the hosts bowled out for 352.
Jake Ball, continuing his injury return, sent down a tight new-ball spell, but Leicestershire’s openers stood firm, Sam Wood (58*) and Nick Welch (39*) reaching the close unbeaten.
