Dan Christian struck a run-a-ball 45, and Samit Patel 34 from 27, before he and Jake Ball each took three wickets as Notts overcame Derbyshire by 22 runs (DLS) in their first Second XI T20 North Group game at Worksop.
Having been inserted, Alex Hales’ return to Outlaws action brought two boundaries in the first over before he departed to Michael Cohen, with Sol Budinger blazing the first delivery of the second over – his first ball – for a six over deep midwicket.
Dane Schadendorf struck a similarly emphatic blow before both he and Budinger were dismissed by the end of the fourth over to leave the Outlaws 37/3.
Christian and Patel’s experienced heads calmed the chaos in the middle, the pair rotating while striking the odd boundary before Patel was caught at deep mid-wicket in the 13th over.
Montgomery resumed where the all-rounder left off, prior to blasting a four and six off McKiernan’s 16th over, the latter a slog sweep over the ropes to take the hosts to 127/4.
In the final four overs, Notts added 20 for the loss of four wickets, Derbyshire fighting back to restrict their opponents to 147/8.
Their reply was a positive one, as they set about chasing 136 in 18 overs, with Harry Came and Mitch Wagstaff reaching 48 without loss after five.
Calvin Harrison got the wicket of the former for 30, however, with Wagstaff falling at the hands of Patel in the ninth over for 25.
After Christian had claimed his first wicket of the summer in Notts colours, Patel, Harrison and Ball took four wickets in 16 balls to leave Derbyshire 105/7 at the end of the 16th.
And a further pair for Ball in the 18th over sealed the win, the visitors finishing on 114 from their allotted overs.
