Sol Budinger’s 151 and an accomplished century from Dane Schadendorf, his second of the game, guided the Seconds to a memorable five-wicket victory over Leicestershire at Lady Bay.
Set 382 for an improbable victory, the free-flowing blades of Budinger and Schadendorf took the impetus to the visiting attack, victory being secured with 11.5 overs of the day remaining.
Beginning the day on 98/0 overnight, Sam Wood (73) and Nick Welch (60) continued where they left off on day two, before falling to James Hayes and Matt Carter respectively.
The off-spin of Carter (5-66) would prove productive in slowing the Foxes’ charge as they eventually declared on 222/7, 382 ahead and seemingly out of sight.
Budinger and Ben Martindale (44) had other ideas however, the pair of left-handers cranking through the gears on their way to a century stand.
Schadendorf, fresh from his day-three ton, wasted little time in getting into his stride, the second wicket stand passing the 150 mark inside just 129 balls.
By that time, Budinger had his century, and 150 would follow shortly after via a nudge into the leg-side off Aaron Lilley.
But his proactive stay at the crease was brought to an end just three balls later as an attempt at a seventh maximum of his innings landed in the hands of Welch at long-on.
The hosts were already well on course for victory, however, and Schadendorf would pull Abi Sakande through long-on to chalk up his second century of the contest.
Ahmed would twirl his way through the young wicketkeeper-bastman and Calvin Harrison (19), and Zak Chappell was run out for five to induce some nervy final moments.
However, Sammy King (16*) and Matt Carter (4*) combined to take the Green and Golds over the line and to a five-wicket triumph.
