Jake Ball, meanwhile, continued his return to full red-ball fitness with five first-change overs.
Kashif Ali amassed a considered 106 from 133 balls, while Tom Fell finished unbeaten on 63.
Opener Rehaan Adavaleth scored 35, with middle order batters Ben Cox, Henry Cullen and Adam Finch all making scores in the twenties before departing.
The string of starts rescued the visitors from 13/2 in the opening blows of the day.
