Sol Budinger hit a better than run-a-ball 50, and Sammy King 48, on a challenging day for Nottinhgamshire at Uppingham School, where the visitors were bowled out for 192 replying to Leicestershire’s first innings 337.
The hosts then closed 44/1 to hold a 189 run lead heading into the third day.
After taking the final two Leicestershire wickets for the concession of 23 runs, Budinger and Ben Martindale added 69 before the former hit Ed Barnes to Gavin Griffiths at long off.
Matthew Montgomery fell lbw two balls later, and Martindale departed soon after when he retired after being struck on the helmet.
After the wickets of Joey Evison and Calvin Harrison - both bowled by Barnes - King and Dane Schadendorf staged something of a counter, sharing a 44 run partnership.
The wicketkeeper-batter was bowled, however, by the off spin of Bowley and of the remaining batters, only Travis Holland could add a double-figure score before he was caught off the helmet of short leg with King the penultimate wicket to fall.
As close drew near, Jack Pierce took the solitary Leicestershire third innings wicket with Hassan Azad edging to Schadendorf but the Running Foxes negotiated the remaining 13 overs safely.
