Nottinghamshire built a slender lead before Toby Pettman and Calvin Harrison sliced through the Lancashire middle order on the penultimate day of their Second XI Championship fixture at Southport.
The addition of 112 runs for Notts’ last five wickets - including 39 for Zak Chappell and 32 for Matt Carter - ensured that the Green and Golds finished their first innings on 249, 36 runs ahead.
And the hosts were two wickets down before the advantage was canceled out, Rob Jones then departing when the Red Rose led by two.
Resistance was shown by George Bell and George Lavelle (31) before they were dismissed by Harrison and Pettman respectively, to leave Lancashire 85-5.
Harrison and Carter took one more each before close, the home side 122-7 boasting a lead of 86 with three wickets remaining.
Pettman has six match wickets, and Harrison seven, as Notts hunt a win in their opening competitive fixture.
