A 120-run sixth-wicket partnership between Zak Chappell and Matt Carter carried Nottinghamshire towards parity on the second day of the Second XI Championship game against Somerset.
The Green and Golds were eventually bowled out for 299, 43 runs behind the hosts’ first innings score.
Having added 26 in the morning session to close on 342, Somerset’s momentum was halted by a positive 71-run opening stand between Matt Montgomery (22) and Sol Budinger (43).
Their departures catalysed quick wickets, however, with Notts reduced to 105/5, before Chappell (77) and Carter (62) began their rear guard.
The pair struck 19 boundaries between them before their demise was brought about by experienced campaigners Roelof van der Merwe and Marchant de Lange.
Cameos from Ben Martindale and Jake Ball elevated Notts to their final total, with two days still to play in the fixture.
