Toby Pettman took his second five wicket haul in as many games to put Nottinghamshire in a commanding position on day one against Leicestershire in the Second Eleven Championship.

Having won the toss, the Green and Golds reduced the hosts to 35 for five, three of which were courtesy of Pettman in his opening spell, including the wickets of Sam Bates, lbw, and Max Law, caught behind, in consecutive deliveries.

He returned to dismiss Nat Bowley and took his fifth by forcing a leading edge from Roman Walker who was caught by Tom Barber.

Joey Evison and Zak Chappell each took two wickets, and Barber one, to limit the home side to 161 all out in the second session.

With ample time to make hay in reply, Matthew Montgomery and Ben Compton shared a 73-run stand for the first wicket before the latter was caught at first slip off the bowling of Bowley. Evison stood firm to finish unbeaten on 48 at close, however, with Montgomery 49 not out.
