Brett Hutton has returned to the Nottinghamshire fold ready to fight for his place in an increasingly well stocked bowling unit.
The seamer will once again wear the green and gold after three years with Northamptonshire and believes the increase in competition for places is one of the major differences between Wantage Road and Trent Bridge.
“When you look at the high standard of the other seamers in the squad, competition for places is intense,” said Hutton.
“That means you can’t get away with having a couple of bad weeks or not having trained as hard as you’re able over the winter.”
The 28-year-old is no stranger to that level of competition during his time at Trent Bridge, having come up against Stuart Broad, Luke Fletcher, Jake Ball amongst others during his first stint.
However, with the first pre-season fixture just under a week away, Hutton is confident he can use the competition for places as a force for good.
“It motivates you to keep pushing forward and remain one step ahead when it comes to the players you’re competing against,” he said.
Hutton made his First-Class debut for Nottinghamshire in 2011, and he is looking forward to returning to Trent Bridge, a ground which he holds in high regard.
Back with his former teammates, and some fresh faces, the all-rounder says there is a belief permeating through the dressing room ahead of the new campaign.
“Everyone enjoys playing at Trent Bridge, it’s a nice atmosphere, and the fact that it’s a Test match ground adds a little bit of flavour to things too,” he said.
“I think it’s fair to say that everyone is really confident at this time of year, with those aspirations for what could be about to happen high up in everyone’s minds.”
“I really want to be performing in the red-ball competition and looking to lead the side to trophies.”
