Ben Slater scored a century in a losing cause as a Notts Premier League Representative XI chased 311 with two balls to spare in a terrific battle at Caythorpe Cricket Club.
An opening stand worth 183 between Slater and Matthew Montgomery helped Notts to 311/5 from their 50 overs, but Attenborough’s Savin Perera struck a 90-ball hundred to help his side secure a win in the final over.
Having won the toss, Notts captain Slater looked imperious as he hit 106 off 89 deliveries, including 13 fours and two sixes.
When he departed, caught and bowled by Radcliffe-on-Trent’s William Masojada, the Green and Golds were handsomely placed with 31.1 of their 50 overs gone.
Opening partner Montgomery contributed 92 before Masojada trapped the Loughborough University student lbw for his second wicket five overs later, leaving the middle order with the task of elevating the total.
It was a task taken on by U18 captain Sam King, who bludgeoned 31 from 11 deliveries in the closing stages.
Fateh Singh had Papplewick & Linby’s Brent Williams caught and bowled from just the fourth ball of Notts Premier League’s reply, and regular wickets left the representative side with an uphill battle, reaching 137 for four with half of their allocated overs used.
However, Perera and Kimberley Institute’s Martin Weightman combined to add 165, including 18 from the 48th over, to bring their side within touching distance of the total before the former fell in the penultimate over with nine required from seven balls.
Weightman himself then departed from the first ball of Barber’s final over for a crucial run-a-ball 77, but Caythorpe’s Hishaam Khan and skipper George Bacon finished the job with a boundary each.
