Ella Porter extended her glorious run of form with the bat to condemn Derbyshire to a 44-run defeat at Denby Cricket Club and secure a Group 3 title triumph for Notts in the ECB U18 County One-Day Competition.
The right-hander struck 45 opening the batting and Eloise Della-Spina hit a quick-fire 35 in the middle order to help the Green and Golds set a competitive 152 from their 40 overs. Wickets shared around the bowling unit, including two for Porter, ultimately secured the victory.
Inserted by the hosts, Notts added 28 for the first wicket, and 71 for the second, as Sadie Hodgson and Elizabeth Grantham-Woodhouse batted around the in-form Porter, who was gunning for back-to-back half-centuries following a match-winning 52 against Lincolnshire.
She fell just short of the milestone, however, when bowled by Zaara Farhan in the 28th over with the score on 88.
The 12 remaining overs provided ample time for Della-Spina to hoist the Green and Golds to north of three figures and further, hitting three boundaries in her 39-ball stay at the crease as Notts’ lower middle-order provided support.
In reply, quick wickets for Rhiannon Knowling-Davies and Ashliegh Richards inside the first ten overs reduced Derbyshire to 13-2 and on the back foot with the required run-rate climbing.
Despite a third-wicket stand worth 45, Porter’s first wicket, that of Lily Dalkin-Strube - Derbyshire’s top scorer with 22 - left the hosts still requiring 95 runs to win with little over 18 overs remaining.
Niamh Doody’s run-out of Eve Mitchener with the home side on 72 then sparked two more quick wickets for Notts, Imogen Pitt adjudged leg before to give Hodgson her first wicket before Porter got her second, and another prized wicket, as Alicia Shaw was caught by Doody for 19.
A spell of resistance from the hosts served to save face, but a lack of impetus in the innings ensured Notts took the points, Derbyshire concluding their 40 overs on 108.
