Nottinghamshire seam bowler Luke Wood has been ruled out of contention in the immediate future with an ankle problem.

The left-armer started the season in the first-team squad, playing in the matches at Lancashire and Yorkshire where he took two wickets on each occasion.

That followed an impressive end to the 2017 summer and some eye-catching performances on the pre-season tour to Potchefstroom, South Africa.

However, the 22-year-old made way for the return of Stuart Broad from international duty for the victory at Worcestershire, and he now faces a spell on the sidelines with this injury.

“I’m gutted to be out with an ankle injury, but with a bit of patience and hard work over the weeks to come, I will be back fitter and stronger,” said Wood.

The likely length of absence for the former Cuckney player has yet to be confirmed by the Notts medical team.
