Riki Wessels’ spell playing in the Kong Kong T20 Blitz came a successful conclusion when his Hung Hom Jaguars team were overall winners of the tournament.
The Notts Outlaws batsman had contributed scores of 91 not out and 37 in helping his side to the final, where they faced a Galaxy Gladiators Lantau team captained by Kumar Sangakkara.
Hong Hum batted first at Mong Kok and piled up 200-7 as Nizakat Khan scored 93 off 52 balls and Johan Botha 36 off 22, with Wessels falling for 5 off 7 balls.
In reply, the Gladiators were well placed on 101 without loss in the 11th over as Balal Muhammad (33) and Sangakkara (76) started well.
But the fall of four wickets in the third quarter of the Lantau innings enabled the Jaguars bowlers to turn things around and secure a six-run victory.
In Samit Patel’s final game of the tournament for the Kowloon Cantons, he ended on a winning note, helping to seal a comfortable eight-wicket success.
First the all-rounder took 1-33 opening the bowling as Hong Kong Island United struggled to 115-9.
And then he was at the crease on 10 not out, alongside Dwayne Smith (46 not out), as the Cantons eased to 117-2 to win with 59 balls to spare.
