Nottinghamshire batsman Samit Patel has joined Pakistan Super League side Islamabad United, where he is relishing lining up alongside the likes of Alex Hales, Andre Russell and Sam Billings.
The 33-year-old all-rounder will also be in the same squad as Steven Finn, Samuel Badree and Luke Ronchi in the tournament, which lasts from 22 February to 16 March for the group stages, with the final on 25 March.
Patel is excited to join the champions of the PSL’s inaugural competition in 2016, who will take on Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans, Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars.
“You don’t often get the chance to go and play in such a big tournament as this, so it’s great to be asked to go,” he said.
“There are a lot of big T20 players who will be there including Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen and Kieron Pollard, and I always enjoy testing myself in that company.
“I went out last year and was in the Peshawar squad but didn’t play, so I’m hoping to make a good impression this time.
“I feel in good nick after playing in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz and hopefully I can carry on where I left off.
“It does mean I will miss the South Africa pre-season tour, but I will be back for Notts’ pre-season games and get in plenty of red ball cricket before the season starts.”
