Nottinghamshire are about to embark on the new 2018 season, where they are back in Specsavers County Championship Division One after a one-year hiatus. In the lead-up to it, trentbridge.co.uk is running the rule over their seven opponents, one each day – with a little bit of help from left-arm seamer Harry Gurney. Today we focus on Yorkshire.
Yorkshire
Captain: Gary Ballance.
First-team Coach: Andrew Gale.
Championship overseas players: Cheteshwar Pujara (India) and Kane Williamson (New Zealand, pictured).
Championship signings: None.
Ground: Emerald Headingley.
Betting odds: 5-1.
Harry says: “Over the last five or six years, they have probably been the strongest team in the country in red ball cricket. They have a capable young coach going into his second year in Andrew Gale, are always a feisty bunch to play against and are very well supported. Cheteshwar Pujara, who plays as overseas in the early part of the season, is a familiar face after his stint with us last summer.”
