Chris Nash will play no part in Nottinghamshire’s two-day match at Leicestershire as a precautionary measure after suffering a bruised right thumb.

The top order batsman did not bat as Head Coach Peter Moores’ side scored 394-6 on day one at the Fischer County Ground, Grace Road.

Instead, he went to hospital to have an x-ray that confirmed there was no break.

However, with next week’s first County Championship game of the season against Lancashire at Old Trafford on the horizon, the Notts management have decided Nash will not take to the field tomorrow (Friday) when the visitors will bowl.

“It happened in the nets at Lady Bay on Wednesday and with Chris still finding it a bit sore, we wanted to get it x-rayed,” said Moores.

“It’s fine, it's been found there’s no serious damage or break, but it makes sense that he doesn’t risk any further damage in this game.

“It’s very much a precautionary move and we expect him to be back in the nets at the start of next week preparing for the Lancashire match.”

Meanwhile, Notts Academy's game at Loughborough MCCU was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
