Paul Coughlin has been named in England Lions’ team to take on a Queensland XII in Brisbane in a three-day match starting tomorrow.
The Nottinghamshire bowling all-rounder has been chosen along with the likes of former Durham teammate Mark Wood, Middlesex opener Nick Gubbins and George Garton, the young Sussex bowler who impressed in England’s Ashes preparations after being called in when Jake Ball suffered an injury in the build-up.
Andy Flower, the Lions’ Head Coach, said: “We’re playing a 12-a-side match as they do in the Futures League, which is Australia’s main Second XI competition.
“We’d normally be keener on playing 11-a-side and a first-class fixture, but in this instance it will afford us the opportunity to play an extra quick bowler – and also to face an extra quick bowler from Queensland, which we expect to mean Ben Cutting being included in their team as he returns after injury.”
The Queensland team will be coached by Andy Bichel, the former Australia seamer who was a team-mate of Flower’s in his county cricket stint with Essex.
England Lions team in full: Jennings (capt), Gubbins, Westley, Foakes, Lawrence, Livingstone, Davies, Coughlin, Curran, Wood, Leach, Garton.
