Captain Brett Hutton ensured Nottinghamshire’s Seconds began their 2017 season on the front foot as he led the bowling charge on day one of their three-day friendly against Loughborough MCCU.
The 24-year-old backed up his decision to bowl first with a fierce display of fast bowling as the students could only manage 213 all out.
Hutton finished with figures of 6-46 off 21.1 overs and was ably backed up by Ben Kitt, in the first year of a professional deal with Nottinghamshire, who took 2-36.
Joey Evison and Adam Wiffen ensured the visitors suffered no early losses in the 5.4 overs possible before bad light stopped play for the day, Nottinghamshire finishing on 21-0.
