Teenage Nottinghamshire left-arm spinner Liam Patterson-White has been called up to the England Under-19s squad for this summer’s international matches against India.
The 18-year-old is in contention to play in two 'Tests' at Chesterfield and Worcester in the four-day series starting on 23 July.
A five-game Royal London one-day series, also against the tourists, then starts on 7 August and finishes on 16 August, taking in Cardiff, Canterbury, Hove, Bristol and Taunton.
For the one-day series, the England selectors have only considered players who are available for the ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand in early 2018.
Andy Hurry, the Head Coach of the Young Lions programme, said: “We had an excellent tour of India earlier this year, when the lads involved learned so much both in red-ball and white-ball cricket.
“Facing the Indians in a return series this summer provides an excellent opportunity to build on that, and to face international opposition in more familiar home conditions.
“It’s going to be fascinating to see our most talented young cricketers put in that position. It’s worth noting that we didn’t consider four eligible players for selection as they are likely to be in contention to play first-team cricket for their counties – Sam Curran, Ollie Pope, Matt Fisher and Delray Rawlins.
“That’s not to take anything away from the guys who have been selected, but to underline the amount of young talent we have in the domestic game."
Hamidullah Qadri, the 16-year-old off-spinner who made an historic first-class debut for Derbyshire in the Specsavers County Championship last week, is one of the new faces in the one-day squad – putting him in line to become the first Afghanistan-born player to represent England at Under-19 level.
An Invitational XI, who will provide India with their warm-up opposition in Loughborough, has also been selected.
