James Pattinson’s arrival at Trent Bridge meant the Pattinsons became the 28th pair of brothers to represent Nottinghamshire in first class cricket.
James’ elder sibling Darren was with the county from 2008 to 2012, playing in 40 first class matches and helping pick up a championship pennant in 2010.
The Pattinson’s are following hard in the footsteps of Samit and Akhil Patel and Andrew and Matthew Carter, who have been on the books in the last few years.
Nottinghamshire’s new recruit is an Australian Test bowler, having made his debut against New Zealand in 2011
The significance of the selection meant that for the first time in more than a century, two brothers had represented different countries in Tests as Darren, born in Grimsby, had played one Test for England in 2008.
The only previous occasion when Notts could lay claim to Test-playing brothers was when George and John Gunn were on the staff.
George played 15 Tests between 1907 and 1930, with John having played six times between 1901 and 1905.
On two occasions, with the McIntyres and the Parr’s, Notts have actually had three brothers who have played for them, although at no stage did they all appear in the same match together.
