Nottinghamshire’s Seconds made the trip to Denby Cricket Club for a three-day friendly with Derbyshire, and Notts fell 139 runs behind their local rivals at the close of day one after being bowled out for 84.

Notts won the toss and elected to bat, but the visitors’ stint lasted all of 29 overs as they crumbled under the Derbyshire attack.

Early dismissals of Joe Barrett, who made two, in the fourth over and then the scoreless Will Root in the fifth meant Notts were 13 for two not long after the start.

Opener Sam Wood made 22 and Anuj Dal 15, but the Notts batting order struggled to amass runs and Tom Keast, Liam Patterson-White and Jack Blatherwick all went without scoring as Notts were all out for 84 – and Luis Reece finished with four for 29 off nine overs for Derbyshire and Girjit Sandhu three for 23 off ten.

Derbyshire replied strongly and, at the end of the 67th over, bad light brought an end to the day’s play with the hosts 223 for six, Josh Clarke 90 unbeaten and Girjit Sandhu on one.

Daryn Smit had posted a 59 off 107 balls, but was pinned lbw by Matt Milnes in the 50th over, and at the close Blatherwick finished on three for 27 off 11 overs, the visitors trailing Derbyshire by 139 runs.
